Is German easy to learn if you have an English speaking background?

Im 12 and want to learn german. My language is English. Also my neighbors are german. What is the easiest way I can learn german?

Easiest way (only way) to learn is to practice (with your neighbours).

German and English share 60% of their vocabulary with eachother, so it should be pretty easy to learn vocab. The grammar is pretty different, but once you’ve got that down, it should be a piece of cake.

German (grammar) is more difficult to learn than English for example.
The best way to learn is to talk to native speakers in my opinion…

Well I won’t say it’s easy since English isn’t too close to German anymore ever since 1066. German has a lot of cases and genders which make it difficult when you want to say a simple sentence.
Der (masculine) Der Man (The Man)
Die (feminine/plural) Die Frau/Die Kinder (The Woman/The Children)
Das (neutral) Das Buch (The Book)

    You can learn it .

    1) Spend the time ! : The more time you spend with the language, the faster you will learn. This means listening, reading, writing, speaking, and studying words and phrases.

    2) Listen and read every day! : Listen wherever you are on your MP3 player. Read what you are listening to.

    3) Focus on words and phrases! : Build up your vocabulary, you’ll need lots. Start to notice words and how they come together as phrases. Learn these words and phrases through your listening and reading.

    4) Take responsibility for your own learning!

    5) Relax and enjoy yourself ! : Do not worry about what you cannot remember, or cannot yet understand, or cannot yet say. It does not matter. You are learning and improving. The language will gradually become clearer in your brain, but this will happen on a schedule that you cannot control. So sit back and enjoy. Just make sure you spend enough time with the language. That is the greatest guarantee of success.

English and german are both anglo-germanic languages but that doesn’t make learning german any easier. A lot of good answers here. I learned more in two hours from two Germans than I did in a year of German I in high school.(I got a D)
