What are some available sources on the internet, TV, radio etc that I could use to learn French at home?

That’s nice that you want to learn French. There are many ways to learn from home. However there are very few ways to learn effectively. You could find some free content (like the french.about.com mentioned in another answer), listen to some french radio or watch french tv shows (like TV5 on cable) but I haven’t met anybody yet who learned french this way in a reasonably short time.

My advice is to get yourself plugged into a program that will allow you to have some sort of tracking system to make sure that you will learn French as a kid would do it. Listen to French CD but make sure you associate that with the transcripts and more importantly with pictures and real situations. This will help you remember.

Many up to date French language software have that included with lessons, interactive quizzes and games.

Explaining “bof”, little french word commonly used in familiar conversations. Be careful though and avoid using it in formal situations.

I don’t have time to take classes, but really want to learn French. So far I know the very basics. Thanks!

i’d try what i did….and that is: if you want to learn french, change yahoo’s webpage (or your favorite webpage) into french and then MAKE yourself translate it DAILY….using altavista.babelfish.com or whatever online translator you choose…it has worked pretty good with me, i work with a bunch of LEGAL mexicans and i have learned pretty decent spanish in a short amount of time…it’s still hard to understand it, but i can speak it well

I came across rosetta stone but its reallly expensive and it doesn’t teach you how to write. I’m willing to spend some money but not 300 for each level. And I want to learn how to speak, read, and write french. thanks.

Plus, just an extra website that might be of some use, is Interpals.net. It connects you with people in France. Like Sharedtalk.com, only a little different. It can’t hurt to have more than one practice site.

I’m trying to learn French online and I’d like to learn as fast as possible. I know there are some good audio courses, like Pimsleur and stuff like that. I’m also interested in videos and podcasts. Any other good ideas to help my learning?

So I’m From Finland, but i can speak English quite well
Anyway I’m wanna learn French. I have tried Rosetta Stone course. Now i know many new French words, but Rosetta stone’s course Doesn’t teach good Grammar. So what would be the best and fastest way to learn French?? ( Links or something)

I plan on studying for at least a half hour EVERY day until mid-June. I am almost fluent in Spanish and think this will help me learn French a lot faster since they are both romance languages.

Have you learned both French and Spanish? What websites can I go to that are best for learning French?

You could try learning something specific every night, such as
-all tenses of a certain verb
-all aspects in one set of vocab e.g. – each part of the body, all the different fruits etc.

Another great boost is to download French songs to listen to outside of your half hour every day, if you find songs you like, it won’t feel like you’re studying. There are also some excellant French films you could watch to get a grip on pronunciation. Try Amelie or Chocolat to begin with!
