The main language in Cape Town is English but they also speak Afrikaans and Xhosa with small groups speaking other African languages. The dominance of English or Afrikaans among Europeans depends on the historical separation of English colonists and Boers. Among black South Africans, English is more widely spoken than Afrikaans.
