French- would learning it give me a big competitive edge in Graphic Design?

June 3, 2010 - 5:28 am 3 Comments

How much of a competitive edge would i have if I finish learning French , I want to do Graphic design? Im also fluent in spanish.

I am a seasoned professional in this industry. Knowing another language is a great benefit in the increasingly global world of business. It may come very useful in advertising, multi-lingual publications (like beauty magazines that publish in many countries) or when working for companies with global presence (automotive, hospitality, pharmaceutical, consumer products, food etc). Recently, I had to do a university catalog layout in Spanish, language which i don’t know. The company eventually hired a professional service to do the proofing, but I think it would have been a great extra ‘add-on’ service if i could have done it.
Throughout the years, I have seen some job ads that required multi-lingual designers, but it seems that most companies want your creative abilities first and foremost.

Any good sites for learning French online for free?

May 26, 2010 - 3:48 am 3 Comments

I want to learn French, but I’m already taking Spanish in school. I’m too far ahead to quit Spanish, but I think French is a really cool subject :) . Is there anyway to learn it online *and like a really good program that could help me speak fluently*? I would prefer there to be no fee for these sites. Personal experience would help me a lot! THANKS!

I don’t know more than a few words of french and would like to learn it. I need to know everything from verb conjugations to vocabulary.

The BBC has a lot of free language learning services. I know they have French. It has vocab, games, video, etc.

Learn French 15

May 21, 2010 - 3:01 pm 25 Comments

Sorry for making such a long video ! Plus, I made some horrible english mistakes (ts, ts, ts NOT GOOD!)

Trying to explain some french pronunciation rules, taking the word “BONJOUR” as an example.

B = pronounced like the english B (baby/ブ)

ON = French nasal sound, pronounced like in the video at 1:32
“ON” should be pronounced that way when placed at the very end of word or in front of a consonant. In front of B or P, the letter N becomes M.

J = pronounced like in the video at 5:05 (j ≠ dj)!!!

OU = pronounced [ue/ウ] like in “true”

R = See video called “Pronunciation of the French R”:
