Best way to learn to play the fiddle?
My girlfriend has played classical violin for years, and recently expressed interest in learning some Irish Fiddle type music. What’s the best way for her to learn this new style and some songs? Is there a recommended book/CD? Or should she just try and learn some songs by ear?
Thanks.
My girlfriend has played classical violin for years, and recently expressed interest in learning how to play Irish Fiddle. Can anyone recommend a good book/CD combo for this?
A) your girlfriend rocks for wanting to experiment B) this book is phenomenal: "The Contemporary Violinist" by Julie Lyonn Lieberman (you can find it on Amazon for appx. $25). The book addresses a number of fiddling styles (ex. traditional American fiddling, Celtic/Irish fiddling, bluegrass, etc.), how to create their unique sounds, and provides a fully notated example of each (which is hard to find in the fiddling realm). It also includes interviews with famous artists within each genre, additional resources for research/learning (web addresses and whatnot), as well as a CD containing all of the fiddling peaces in the book performed live (because being able to hear any sort of fiddling peace is incredibly valuable)
Hope this helps and good luck!
How can you learn a language and what is the best way to do it?
How can you speak fluent in another language you dont know… I want to learn swedish, spanish and italian etc and i dont know how to start and i dont know what i should do…Do i need to attend classes or can i learn on my own? How should i learn a language? help?
Taking classes is good for pronunciation and understanding other speakers. It’s possible to learn on your own however. An efficient way is probably to get a working knowledge of the language structure first, ie. A number of basic phrases, most of the basic grammar, and some vocabulary to illustrate the grammar points. From there you’ll be able to speak quickly and efficiently, and learn vocabulary as they are needed, instead of learning words that you will never use.
How difficult is it to learn how to play ice hockey as an adult?
I am 29 years old and soon to turn 30 and want to start learning how to play ice hockey. I never had ice hockey in my town growing up but always wanted to learn. However, I’m wondering how difficult it is to learn how to skate and some of the basic skills involved in order to play at the recreational level with no prior experience. I was quite athletic and played sports growing up such as basketball, football, baseball, and floor hockey, but have not played organized sports in about 8-10 years. Am I kidding myself trying to learn how to play ice hockey now at 30 years old?? It sure seems like a great hobby to take up.
As a Hockey Father and long time player I can tell you there are many middle aged and older people learning hockey. There are several steps to take first – learn to skate. This can be done on roller blades or at the rink. See if your local rink has a learn to skate program and enroll. We see retirees learning at our facility. If not, see if during open ice you can skate while holding a chair in front of you – offers the chance to maintain your balance.
If you choose the ice option, get fitted with a good pair of hockey skates, not rentals. There is no greater deterent to skating than trying to learn on ill-fitting skates and killing your feet.
If you opt to learn roller blading, again get your own skates. Once you have the skating basics down, most ice rinks have a basics hockey program. We have one for adults at our facility that starts with the basics; skate stops, turning, skating backwards and then progresses through stick handling, shooting and advanced skills.
Whatever method you choose, when you start wear a helmet, wrist, elbow and knee guards to protect yourself. We have in Chicago a well known financial king that learned to skate and play hockey when he turned 50 – Sam Zell. Also, most over 30 adult leagues are non-checking leagues to protect the players. Ask your rink about Rat Hockey nights as well.

LEARN KICK CHINESE. You will literally get an kicking from it if you talk this way to your relatives o_O
I just really wanted to make a quick video to wish everybody Happy Chinese New Year. It is an unplanned video but…yeah…. I thought Ill throw in a quick Chinese Lesson too. How to speak like a legit Honger (Hong Kong resident). Why? Because if you dont speak it the correct way, you will be looked down on (hehe joking of course). Its all about sounding angry while you point with your fingers man. Just having a bit of fun, please don’t take it seriously =D Not ALL hk ppl talk like this, maybe jus triads lol…
If you listen to the funny chinese radio show (that teaches people chinese), you will find it funnier I guess
Ps. I do not talk like this in real life! Alot of you think Im some hardcore MK girl apparently rofl.
Yes that is my real grandma! LOL. She is visiting me for Hong Kong and she has been brilliant. I can watch her ALL DAY LONG. Please give her some love. She is the coolest grandma in the World. And NO I did not actually grab her boob. That would be wrong.
Yes, I speak fluent Hakka and Cantonese. My mum and dad speak different types of chinese so I grew up adapting to both languages XD
I will make a proper video when I have the time to sit down and write a script tehehe…
Wishing you all a year of success, happiness and love.
Much love,
Bubz xx

How do chiropractors learn how to do the actual back cracking?
How do they learn all of the different maneuvers. Is it learned in college cause I have looked at the classes required and its just stuff like biology nothing like chiropractic adjusting course. Is there a way to learn just the adjusting with out the biology and stuff. Even though you wouldn’t be able to be a professional and perform publicly.
I’m surprised nobody has answered this yet.
There are specific schools that teach Chiropractic and it’s generally not covered by most major universities. If you would like to find one, I would look in your phone book for Chiropractic schools (if you live in a larger metropolitain area, for example), or do a search on the internet for "Chiropractic school" and your city or state to find one near you.
If all else fails, you could ask a few Chiropractors in your local area and ask where they got their education from to learn the Chiropractic treatments.
Good luck!
