Well I’m know I’m taking a language next year, but I’m still trying to figure out which one. Theres Spanish, German, and French. And I sort of want to learn french more so. But in the beginning is French hard to understand. Or I think German would be interesting to learn, but I really don’t know. Any ideas or experiences?
Here’s an experience for you:
I dropped out of high school in the middle of my Junior year.
At the time, I was in my second year of French.
I felt I was doing poorly in my studies, and was impatient to go to work.
Years later, as I was going through some old paperwork in my parent’s house, I came across my old report cards. I had actually been doing poorly (mainly due to boredom and inattention)……but I was surprised to find out that I had been carrying a "B" average in French the whole time. It is not a very hard language to learn. A good many words used in English derive from French.
The hardest part is the sentence structure. As an American speaking English, it took a bit to grasp. Male and female gender for the same word? Yep. A litttle bit before and after a verb to transform it to a negative? Yep. That’s actually the hardest part. I often wish I had continued my studies, at least that one. Now, Je ne parle pas Francaise beaucoup.
German wasn’t available, I think I would still have selected French.
Even though I have a Germanic background.
Good luck in your choice.

I want to learn french and italian, one first then the other of course.
Please let me know if you have a good learning experience with an audiobook.
CDs definitely are interactive. There is one set that you can burn to mp3 and carry around in an mp3 player and practice "interacting" with the lessons by respoinding. It is called Pimsleur, Beginning French. Ask at your local library or ask if they can do an inter-library loan. If they do a loan, check out the first lesson (it teaches you to speak simply right away) and then get them made into mp3 files so you can send them back.

I am looking to learn French in France but because I cannot afford the price of immersion courses, I was wondering if someone could suggest a good alternative ie working for my course, such as voluntary work or a home-stay, teaching english. I am a complete beginner at the language so, I would like to spend significant amount of time there to really accustom to the language. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
When I was 17 I went and spent a summer working on a fruit farm near Saumur, living with all the other employees. It was a great way to be 100% immersed in French from the start, and I came out the other end fluent and with a vast array of slang at my disposal.

Visit http://beginnersfrenchlessons.com/ for your next French lesson. In lesson 2 you’ll learn how to ask, “What is your name?” and how to say, “My name is” in French. To ask what is your name to a stranger or somebody older than you ask, “Comment vous appelez-vous?”. For somebody your own age or younger than you ask, “Comment tu t’appelles?” To answer, say “Je m’appelle + Your Name. So, I’d say, “Je m’appelle David.”

I recently realized that as a Canadian, I need to understand and speak both French and English. I only speak Fluent English and I want to learn French as soon as possible.
I want to know what is the quickest method to learn french fluently.
Thanks for any answers
First you’ll have to learn french as you would do at school…
then you can improve and understand french with french music, french film
that’s how I try to improve and keep contact with English language (I don’t have the chance to practice english in my every day life except on Yahoo answers)
